Master's Degree Applicants

For students applying directly into a master's degree program (not starting with a certificate), the following materials (listed below) are required. Be prepared to have the materials ready to be uploaded/entered once you start the application. If you are unable to have all materials ready when applying, you can still start the application and save it. 

Please note: we will be unable to process your application without the required documents. 


Required application documents

Complete the Online Application. When you start your application, select "Graduate Online/Distance."

2-3 paragraphs explaining why you are applying for this program.  If a Statement of Purpose module is not available within the application, then please upload it on the status page after submission.

Unofficial transcripts are sufficient for an admit decision.

Upload your transcripts on the online application under the "Institutional Data" section. PDF scans are preferred. Missouri S&T requires official transcripts from all schools attended before a student may register for a second semester. In order for a transcript to be counted as official, it must be sent directly from the school to Missouri S&T. It cannot come directly from a student.

GRE/GMAT scores (unofficial scores accepted during application process) are required for students applying directly into the following master’s or doctoral degree program

  • Aerospace Engineering, MS and PhD
  • Business Administration, MBA (GRE or GMAT)
  • Civil Engineering, DE
  • Computer Engineering, MS and PhD
  • Electrical Engineering, MS and PhD
  • Geological Engineering, MS and PhD
  • Information Science and Technology, MS
  • Industrial-Organizational Psychology MS
  • Manufacturing Engineering, MS
  • Mechanical Engineering, MS and PhD

It is not required for those applying to a graduate certificate program. 

Missouri S&T’s GRE Test Center Code is: 6876.

You will list three recommenders in the "Recommendations" section of the application. They will receive an email informing them of your request. If they have not responded within a specific time frame, they will receive an email reminder. 

Upload your resume in the "Resume" section of your application.  PDF or JPG file formats are preferred.

All non-native English speaking graduate international applicants must demonsrate English language competency BEFORE they can enroll in a degree program at Missouri S&T. Students applying for a graduate degree program at S&T must meet one of the minimum scores:

  • TOEFL: 80
  • IELTS: 6.5
  • PTE: 58
  • Duolingo: 115
  • Cambridge English B2 First, C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency: 176

Missouri S&T does maintain a list of English Proficiency Exempt Countries

Applicants who have received a degree from a university in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada (with exception of Quebec) will also be exempt from providing English test scores.

*Letters of recommendations are not needed for those applying to a non-thesis master's degree program. If you are an S&T alumnus applying for the Engineering Management MS thesis, you may list (as references) three S&T faculty members you had as an undergraduate. Upload this list as a word document under the “Portfolio” section of your application. 

Alumni applying directly into a graduate degree program (not starting with a certificate):
Requirements may vary. For example: some departments do not require GRE scores from graduates of certain programs who meet a minimum GPA requirement. Please contact online admissions at stgrad@mst.edu regarding your specific program.
