Master's Degree Applicants

For students applying directly into a master's degree program (not starting with a certificate), the following materials (listed below) are required. Be prepared to have the materials ready to be uploaded/entered once you start the application. If you are unable to have all materials ready when applying, you can still start the application and save it.

Please note: we will be unable to process your application without the required documents.

Required application documents

Complete the Online Application. When you start your application, select "Graduate Online/Distance."

2-3 paragraphs explaining why you are applying for this program.  If a Statement of Purpose module is not available within the application, then please upload it on the status page after submission.

Unofficial transcripts are sufficient for an admit decision.

Upload your transcripts on the online application under the "Institutional Data" section. PDF scans are preferred. Missouri S&T requires official transcripts from all schools attended before a student may register for a second semester. In order for a transcript to be counted as official, it must be sent directly from the school to Missouri S&T. It cannot come directly from a student.

Official transcripts should be mailed to:

Missouri University of Science and Technology
106 Parker Hall
300 W 13th Street
Rolla, Missouri USA 65409-1060

Official digital transcripts can be sent to apply@mst.edu. Please use the name, S&T Operations if a name is needed.

Global Learning would like to help our UMR/Missouri S&T alumnae with their unofficial transcript for your application.  Please contact global@mst.edu if you need your UMR/Missouri S&T unofficial transcript for your application.

GRE/GMAT scores are required for students applying directly into a master’s degree program; but are not required for those applying to a graduate certificate program. All academic departments accept GRE scores. The Business and IST departments also accept GMAT scores.

Missouri S&T’s GRE Test Center Code is: 6876.

Upload your unofficial GRE/GMAT scores under the "Test Scores" section of your application.

Missouri S&T requires official GRE/GMAT scores before a student may register for a second semester. GRE scores are required of all PhD applicants (even for students who may have started with a graduate certificate).

You will list three recommenders in the "Recommendations" section of the application. They will receive an email informing them of your request. If they have not responded within a specific time frame, they will receive an email reminder.

Some programs require a resume when applying. Check with your department’s requirements to see if this applies to you. Upload your resume in the "Portfolio" section of your application.  PDF or JPG file formats are preferred.

*Letters of recommendations are not needed for those applying to a non-thesis master's degree program. If you are an S&T alumnus applying for the Engineering Management MS thesis, you may list (as references) three S&T faculty members you had as an undergraduate. Upload this list as a word document under the “Portfolio” section of your application.

** Only needed for students applying for the Psychological Science, Computer, Electrical, Civil or Environmental Engineering MS programs.

Alumni applying directly into a graduate degree program (not starting with a certificate):
Requirements may vary. For example: some departments do not require GRE scores from graduates of certain programs who meet a minimum GPA requirement. Please contact the Global Learning Office regarding your specific program.
